Food & Wine

First and foremost Franschhoek is about food and wine – and lots of it! The number of top rated restaurants together with the excellent boutique wine farms of the Franschhoek Valley makes this the most perfect place to visit in all of South Africa for food and wine lovers! In addition to the Franschhoek Wine Valley the Stellenbosch and Paarl wine routes are both within a scenic half an hour’s drive of Franschhoek offering an even wider choice. The wine routes are easy to navigate, however, we can easily arrange a guided wine and cellar tour on your behalf should you prefer!

The Town of Franschhoek - this charming town, encircled by mountains offers a range of shops for all interest including:

• Galleries
• Boutiques
• Art shops
• Jewellery shops
• Specialist shops
• Visit the chocolate factory or
• Some of the cheese makers of the valley
• Visit the Huguenot museum and historical sites
• And of course more restaurants!

Golf - a number of golf courses are available close-by and these include:

• Pearly Valley Golf Course
• Boschenmeer Golf Estate
• Stellenbosch Golf Club
• Villiersdorp Country Club
• A number of other golf courses further afield can also be visited

For the more adventurous or for those young at heart:

• Try wine tasting on horseback (by riding from one farm to the next)
• Horse riding in the mountains
• Rent a bicycle to cycle through the charming village
• Go hiking in the mountains
• Hot air ballooning close by
• Various golf courses in the area
• Paragliding from the Franschhoek Mountains (*seasonal)

Beyond Franschhoek - many return guests have decided to make the beautiful town of Franschhoek their "home base" and travel to some of the other well known areas of the fairest cape during the day such as

• A visit to one of the beaches – Strand and Gordon’s Bay is the closest
• Take a day trip to Hermanus – a charming town where whales can be spotted during season
• Visit Cape Town and surrounding area – only 45 minutes drive from Franschhoek
• Enjoy the surrounding towns of Stellenbosch and Paarl – both in less than 30 minutes drive from Franschhoek

Whichever you choose, Franschhoek is a town of plenty to enjoy and experience.
